Nicky's Story
Safer Sleep for Nicky
Nicholas “Nicky” is a 19-year-old with traumatic brain injuries as a result of being shaken as an infant. He is non-verbal and has had many surgeries over the years with more to come. Nicky has been in and out of the foster care system for many years, but in 2018, a wonderful woman named Sara answered the urgent call to take him in.
Sara shared with us: “Nicky enjoys swimming, riding in his van, and going to gatherings. He has brought so much joy. I believe Nicky was sent to me for a reason as I lost my son 4 years ago at the age of 20, and I said if it wasn’t for knowing that Nicky needs me, I don’t know where or what I would be doing.”
The 4:12 Foundation has granted Nicky a Sleep Safe Bed for better and safer sleep! He did not fit safely in his previous hospital bed, which resulted in many injuries. A Sleep Safe Bed was denied by his insurance, which is the case with many of the families we’ve helped with safety beds.
