Anita's Story
A New Deck to allow for Safe Mobility
Anita was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune inflammatory disease that mainly attacks the joints, at age 23. She started needing to use a wheelchair at age 36 and is now unable to easily reposition herself and move around. She requires a specialized rehab wheelchair that weighs 430 lbs.
Due to her limited mobility, she spends most of her time at home. In the summer, she prefers to be outside but was unable to use her deck because it could not support her wheel chair. The deck also presented a fire hazard as Anita could not exit her home through her back door.
Kurtanich Contracting graciously donated the supplies and labor to build a new deck and handicap ramp for Anita’s home. We are so thankful for their generosity as it allowed our foundation to help other families.
